\Residential Design

The beauty of residential design is the forming of relationships with clients. I find it to be a privilege to help a client create a home that is a reflection of themselves, and space that serves them & their loved ones for years to come.

01 Duality

Ideation

A southern cowboy and big city marketer made for a couple that loved to toe the line between chic simplicity and western influence. Exploring their shared love of bright and clean interiors, the design leaned contemporary by nature. Masculinity and femininity were balanced through black simple lines and softened curvature.

Sterility was avoided via the introduction of the natural and worn texture of zellige tile in the kitchen, warmer tones in the polished concrete floor, and wood rafters. A common challenge with tall ceilings in homes feeling cavernous was combatted with darker base cabinetry color pulled from the Architect's custom steel vent hood design.

As welcoming hosts, the clients wanted their home to be an exciting experience for their guests by including punches of unexpected pattern and color. They hoped to incorporate salvaged barnwood from a previous property that deviated from their usual selections. This called for a powder room wainscot that needed to be paired with materials that pulled the rustic wood into the character of the home as a welcome suprise, instead of a shock.

02 New Avenues

Creative License

Creating spaces with specific clients in mind has its own benefits, but a spec home in Boot Ranch offered an opportunity to think broader than usual. With a client hoping for a unique look that would still appeal to a variety of buyers, simple materials and clean fixtures as a base design allowed for opportunity  for unique and playful touches elsewhere.

Creating an elevated kitchen that was still clean enough to lend itself to many styles meant utilizing some trends and some tradition. A marble square mosaic as opposed to a white square tile gave a common backsplash direction a step up. Reminiscent of materials sought by previous clients, counters were chosen on the basis of durability meeting current fashion. Lighting was a area of exploration in this project as they are a place to pull a potential buyer into a bolder style, without being a permanent fixture of the home. This helped the space have a memorable character, without boxing a person into a specific style.

Powder rooms offer opportunity for more adventurous choices with lower risk. With a client requesting the home to stand out amongst similar offerings on the market, the small half bath was made bold through a tall board & batten style wainscot anchoring patterned wallpaper above. Dark counters and floor added to the moody atmosphere.

03 Hill Country Influence

Holistic Approach

A longstanding client relationship lead to the opportunity to pivot from their planned renovation to instead starting fresh and creating the home of their dreams. With a love for the more traditional rock homes found in the area, the core of the home was designed to reflect history. Deep porches and wood accents created a welcoming outdoor entertaining space flush with southern charm. Extending from the great room were private spaces whose exterior was designed to hold the feel of additions to a longstanding family homestead.

Fresh and tidy were goals for an interior that spoke to the client's desire for a primarily white space. With wood flooring and cabinetry throughout, the home still held the warmth of natural materials despite a primarily white theme.
